Mission Statement

In fidelity to the apostolate of Catholic education, we, the leadership of St. Peter Catholic School, fully mindful of the primary role of parents, will strive to create an environment where students will be led to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually, according to Gospel principles, as enshrined in our Catholic tradition, there by glorifying God and giving living witness to the presence of Christ in the world.

History of Saint Peter School

As early as 1843, an enthusiastic interest in maintaining a Catholic School in St. Peter Parish in Covington was exhibited.
The old church was used as a school from 1890 until 1910, when a three-room school was built. This building was later destroyed in the 1915 hurricane, but was immediately rebuilt.  In 1923, a two-story frame school was built to accommodate the increasing enrollment. By 1950, enrollment reached 223. The main campus of St. Peter School was dedicated in 1956. We presently accommodate over 700 students.

Today, the campus of St. Peter Catholic School consists of Administrative Offices (2000), Cafeteria (2000) Special Education Room, Math and Reading Tutor Room, Speech
Room, Computer Lab, Art Room, Music/Band Room and Early Childhood Building (ECC, Prek – K students 1997) Main Building (first through third grades),

Intermediate Building (fourth and fifth grades), Middle Grades (2001 sixth through seventh grade), renovation and enlargement of the library (2002) and the purchase and development of land for an extra playground by our Parents’ Club (2005).

Philosophy

St. Peter Catholic School, as a ministry of St. Peter Parish, provides students with a challenging academic formation grounded in the spiritual and moral teachings of the Catholic Church. We strive:

1. to provide a favorable environment where children have the opportunity to live a life of faith, hope, and charity – a life marked with love of God and neighbor.

2. to provide a strong academic foundation, not solely for the sake of gaining knowledge, but the sake of using knowledge for the betterment of humanity.

3. to provide teachers and staff who excel professionally and imitate Christ in their personal lives.

4. to assure opportunities for students to develop an awareness of their individual God-given abilities and talents.
